Bible

Why is the Bible our primary "textbook"?

In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the apostle Paul instructs Timothy, a young pastor, that  "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."  The Bible is the foundation upon which all other learning must be built.  A child can be wise in the ways of man and still be utterly without knowledge if he is denied the opportunity to study God's Word.  At Calvary Christian Academy, we teach children to use the Bible as a filter through which all other knowledge must be passed.

How does Bible instruction work in a multi-age classroom?

Much like it does in many Sunday School classrooms.  The teacher teaches a lesson to the whole class, and then children complete assignments and activities that are in line with their level of skill.  For example, younger children may be required to draw a picture and write a sentence, while older children may be expected to write a paragraph or two.

What will children learn at each level?

Children in Levels 1-2, will listen to teachers read from the Bible itself as well as from children's storybook versions.  They will learn children's Bible songs, play games, do arts and crafts actvities, and act out stories. Level 2 students will also begin the Bible Truths curriculum which includes Bible reading, comprehension questions and activities, and scripture memorization.  In Levels 3-5, students will read the Bible daily, participate in whole class and small group discussions, and continue the Bible Truths series.

What about the application of Biblical knowledge?

From the earliest ages, students will learn Christian values through demonstration and instruction, forming connections between the lessons of the Bible and their own behavior and choices.  As they get older, they will have the opportunity to participate in Christian service in the school and out in the community.

The mission of Sheridan Christian Academy is to provide a high quality, Christ centered education that cultivates both mind and spirit while building knowledge, inquiry, self-worth, and moral fortitude upon a foundation of Biblical faith and principles.
